Build Your Own Cat Tree
You've probably searched for cat tree plans all over the 'net. Many of the plans available are suitable for only a few situations, are too difficult to build, etc.
Here's a relatively uncomplicated design that requires simple materials available at your local home store. This tree is placed in our laundry room by the west window, where Felix loves
the warmth from the sun. If you want it to look good in a nicer room in your house, you can dress it up as you wish.
The 'backbone' of the tree is made of two ordinary wall studs. Be sure to nail them together as soon as you get them home from the store, to prevent them from warping and curling.
The shelves and braces are made from 5/8 inch sheathing. One 4 x 8 sheet is more than enough.
One-inch drywall screws can be used to hold all the pieces together.
Notice that the higher shelves are edged with 1x2 pine. that gives ol' Felix a little more secure feeling when he naps, because he's less likely to roll off and land on the floor!
The whole thing was stained to match the room's woodwork. Your local hardware store should be able to do the color matching for you. The carpeting is left-over from a previous carpeting project.
Many designs show all the wood covered with carpeting. Go ahead and do that, if you want to do the work.
